How exciting! Gamut is offering up our first class, Day of Reckoning. One intense day with eight talented authors and teachers, plus feedback on up to eight different stories. All for only $350. Click on over and check it out, the classes will be small, up to eight students. This should be a lot of fun. Honored to work with each and every one of these authors.
So here’s the big news: we are reprinting a story by STEPHEN KING in the March issue of Gamut! The story we’re publishing is a powerful post-9/11 tale entitled, “The Things They Left Behind.” I’ve read more of King’s writing than any other author—almost all of his novels, and the majority of his short stories. He’s a big part of the reason I love reading and writing. I’ve been lucky enough to publish alongside him four times as an author (Shivers VI, Qualia Nous, Chiral Mad 3, and Cemetery Dance #72) but this is really something special. They rarely allow reprints of stories this long, and hardly ever online, not to mention we’ll have it for three months (and in the eBook). So, if you have been looking for a reason to subscribe, here you go. (Also, the buy one, get one sale is still going on for February.) Very exciting.
For the month of February we will have a special buy one, get one subscription free offer. So sign up now, and enjoy! The first two issues are out and/or uploading this month, and there are plenty of free samples to check out as well. Stop by and give us a look. We also pay ten cents a word for original fiction.
I just wanted to let you all know that effective immediately I have resigned as Editor-in-Chief of Dark House Press. I’m grateful to the opportunities that Victor gave me, and the support I got from Naomi, Catherine, Alban, and Jacob, but it’s time for me to move on. I was honored to work on so many excellent books. Each one of those books was an education, and an inspiration. I learned a lot. It’s very tough to run a micro-press, and it doesn’t take much to sink it. DHP will be dormant, but alive, for the immediate future. Scratch will be the last book I put out. I will be focusing on Gamut, my teaching, and my OWN writing! I wrote two stories last year, and four the year before—and I need to change that, be more productive. I also owe my agent a new book. It’s tentatively titled Fathom (dual meaning—depth of water and understanding). Thank you all for your support. Onward and upward.

“I think Gamut Magazine is on a lot of people’s minds right now. They are a new magazine, expected to launch on January 1st of next year (2017), although they already have samples up on their website. Like us, they’re from Chicago, and they’ve gotten a lot of attention and support so far, especially on their successful Kickstarter.”
